What are some of the common benefits of Kundalini Yoga?



Kundalini yoga has many important, common benefits. Let’s explore some of them.

 

Anxiety and Stress Relief


Stress and anxiety are triggers of hormonal imbalance, sleep insufficiency, and long-term health problems. Kundalini Yoga offers ways to optimize health benefits and minimize the effect of these negative triggers.


According to a 2017 study by trusted Source, the enrolled participants experienced immediate stress relief after doing Kundalini yoga exercises and meditations for a period of 3 months. The level of salivary cortisol immediately decreased after the practice of Kundalini Yoga. The participant with age between 18 to 45 years of age, continued to experience a long-term lower stress level in the weeks after the study was over.


Another 2018 study determined that 8 weeks of practicing Kundalini yoga lowered the severity of the participant's symptoms of a condition called (GAD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The research concluded that the anxiety levels of the participants dropped tremendously. The participants were females between the ages of 24 to 75.


Cognitive Function Improvement


Today, many young adults lose focus while they are studying, learning, or reading. We also see an increasing number of adults with dementia and memory impairment issues. Kundalini Yoga can support a healthy mind and cognitive improvement.


In the 2017 controlled trial Trusted Source, researchers selected 81 participants with mild cognitive impairment. The participants were selected in two groups. One group received memory enhancement training for a period of 12 weeks. The other group practiced Kundalini Yoga exercises, relaxations, and meditations. As a result, both groups showed improved, significant results. However, at the end of the study, only the Kundalini group showed short-term and long-term improvements in their executive functioning. This includes problem-solving, reasoning, and cognitive flexibility. Also, the Kundalini Yoga group showed fewer symptoms of depression.


Improved Self-Esteem and Self-Acceptance


Many individuals today are so focused on body image, social acceptance, and personal branding. It is a very touchy subject for many because they feel they are not worth enough. Kundalini Yoga can assist individuals to look within, to rediscover their self and to love their authenticity.


Another small 2017 study found that Kundalini yoga may improve body positivity and self-acceptance. These benefits were observed in nine women diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. According to the researchers, Kundalini yoga may help treat eating disorders by improving self-perception and self-appreciation.


Spirituality & Self-Reflection

Kundalini Yoga is all about awakening your energy within. It is about reflection and connection with yourself and others. Since it is very difficult to use science to explain and monitor spirituality, there are not many trials in this area. These benefits have not been scientifically proven but are instead supported by anecdotal evidence.
